Learning, Unlearning and Re-Learning: Marketing Thoughts

❔❓ Alam mo ba talaga ang ginagawa mo? ❓❔

Hindi ka namin iniinis. Actually, magandang itanong ito. There’s always time to reflect on yourself.

Ganito, kunin namin ang oras mo saglit as we talk about learning, unlearning and re-learning.

  • 📚 Learning is “the acquisition of knowledge or skills through experience, study, or by being taught.”
  • 🙅‍♀️ Unlearning is “discard[ing] (something learned, especially a bad habit or false or outdated information) from one’s memory.”
  • 🔁 Re-learning is “learn (something) again.”

Linawin natin.

May natutunan ka. That’s Learning.

Gusto mo mag-improve, kaya sinabi mo sa sarili mo, “there must be some changes,” so you deviate from what you have learned. That’s Unlearning.

Kung ano man natutunan mo sa pag-unlearn mo, you compared it to what you have learned before. That’s comparison, pero dahil inuunawa mo ‘yung natutunan mo after you unlearn, that’s Re-learning.

Albert Einstein said “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” This is true. You need to change something to expect something different.

Pero alam n’yo, hindi talaga siya nagsabi nuon.

A 1983 novel by Rita Mae Brown titled “Sudden Death” published the same quote, like this: “Unfortunately, Susan didn’t remember what Jane Fulton once said. “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.””

We have gone full circle. The tables have turned.

Most often, it’s a matter of learning (in this case, you learned before that Einstein said it), unlearning (you double-checked kung si Einstein ba nagsabi), and re-learning (you found out that it’s a quote from a novel).

Mas maganda kung gets mo. Gets?
